Independent Software Developer • Since 1992

Backend‑focused full‑stack developer for serious business platforms.

I design and build dependable backend systems, feature‑rich web applications and infrastructure that quietly powers businesses – from cognitive training platforms to event ticketing at scale. My strongest skill isn’t a framework, it’s listening long enough to really understand what you need built.

What I do

Architecture, implementation & delivery.

I favour backend and systems work, but I’m equally comfortable taking full ownership of the stack when your project needs one person who can see the whole picture.

Backend systems & APIs

Design and build robust, secure backend services, REST/GraphQL APIs, background workers and integrations that your business can rely on.

  • Domain‑driven design & data modelling
  • Authentication, authorization, multi‑tenant setups
  • Messaging, queues and integrations

Feature‑rich web applications

Full‑stack development of business applications and platforms, from admin consoles to end‑user experiences.

  • Responsive, component‑based UIs
  • Complex business flows & dashboards
  • Accessibility and usability baked‑in

Desktop & system services

Experience going all the way down to the OS layer with desktop applications and long‑running services.

  • Desktop client applications
  • Background daemons & schedulers
  • Data synchronisation and migration tooling

Linux & platform operations

Comfortable on Linux, from provisioning and hardening to diagnosing production issues on live systems.

  • Linux server administration
  • Deployment pipelines & observability
  • Performance tuning and troubleshooting

Background

Three decades of shipping software.

I started building software professionally in 1992. Since then I’ve worked across languages, frameworks and industries, always with the same focus: clear business value, clean architecture and maintainable code.

Core strengths

  • Listening first to understand real requirements
  • Backend and systems‑oriented thinking
  • Full‑stack delivery from database to UI
  • Desktop applications and system services
  • Feature‑rich, business‑critical web apps
  • Linux system administration and ops

Independent software developer

Consulting & platform work

Partnering with companies that need bespoke platforms built by someone who can own architecture, implementation and infrastructure without the overhead of a large agency.

1990s & 2000s

Desktop & client‑server systems

Built and maintained rich desktop applications and client‑server systems during the era before “everything was a web app”, giving me a strong grounding in fundamentals.

2010s & 2020s

Modern web & platforms

Transitioned those skills into full‑stack web platforms, architecting backend‑heavy systems with intuitive interfaces for business users and consumers.

Selected platforms

Recent work highlighted.

Below are two examples of the kind of platforms I design and build – both are end‑to‑end systems where reliability and user experience matter.

Education • Cognitive Training

EyeBrainGym

Adaptive visual intelligence & reading‑with‑comprehension training.

EyeBrainGym is a cognitive training platform that develops visual intelligence – the ability to interpret, understand, link and process visual information – so users can see more, read faster, remember better and think clearer.

The system evaluates each user’s skill levels and automatically compiles a tailor‑made game plan of sessions, exercises and games to train visual skills, improve visual processing, language and reading with comprehension. Training is delivered online at the learner’s own pace and schedule, from home, school or office.

It serves a wide audience – from early grades to tertiary students, private learners, schools and businesses – helping improve problem‑solving, executive function, neural plasticity and life‑long learning.

Music • Events & Ticketing

GigMystro

GigMystro upcoming events view with ticket buttons and featured artists

Social platform for live music, events & ticket sales.

GigMystro is a music‑centric social and ticketing platform that connects music lovers, artists and live events.

Fans can discover and buy tickets to gigs and concerts, follow artists, share pages and engage with a community built around live music. Artists use the platform to showcase their work, grow their audience and receive direct support from fans through a Patreon‑style model.

On the operations side, GigMystro offers event organisers tools to publish events, manage ticket sales and handle attendees, while the platform takes care of authentication, profiles, feeds and secure transactions.

Let’s talk

Have a platform or system in mind?

I work best with teams and founders who need a pragmatic, backend‑minded developer who can still deliver a polished front end. Share a bit about your idea, timeline and constraints and I’ll get back to you.
